• 19 Mar 2009 • THE thirteen 'Mobylette' 50cc scooter enthusiasts who set out to complete a 2,500 kilometre journey from Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena, to Sidi Ifni, in Morocco and back, on March 2, had to turn back after 1,700 kilometres due to four days of driving rain which caused the ageing scooters to break down regularly.
The intrepid travellers never made it as far as Sidi Ifni, making a detour to Marrakech, from where they departed on their return journey.
The same group last year embarked on a similar ten-day trip of 1,800 kilometres to the Sahara and back, braving a range of conditions from snow to rain, cold and wind.
On their return journey this year, a mere three kilometres from Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmadena, one of their scooters broke down.
According to the riders, this ten day trip has been the toughest venture they have undertaken so far, due to the route and the constant rain. |
