King Mohammed VI on Thursday appointed new Walis and governors at the central and territorial administration of the ministry of Interior.

These appointments are part of the sovereign's concern to promote good local governance, ensure the efficient implementation of the policy of proximity and achieve integrated regional development.

They are also part of the king's orientations aiming to reinforce the decentralisation process through giving new impetus to the action of the State and reorganising territorial administration in order to optimise its efficiency and reinforce proximity.

These appointments, taking place on the eve of the local elections to be held later this year in Morocco, aim to encourage the competences who work in the territorial administration through periodic internal promotion and to reinforce the central services of the ministry of Interior through endowing them with executives and competences that would promote the process of democratisation and economic and social development.

The sovereign also approved the proposals submitted by the ministry of Interior related to the creation of new prefectures and provinces in Ouezzane, Sidi Slimane, Guercif, Driouch, Berrechid, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Rhamna, Fkih Bensalah, Midelt, Tinghir, Sidi Ifni and Tarfaya.
